27 March 2023
Thank you to everyone who entered our Horse of a Lifetime competition in March. Read the stories for our four shortlisted horses below before casting your votes on social media.
Gaby & Carys
Breed: Shire x Thoroughbred
Age: 11 yrs
Discipline/activity: Happy hacking and having fun
After coming through gruelling cancer treatment I went for a ride at the local riding school. 4 weeks later I accidentally ended up buying Carys - we were both in a pretty poor state!! She has blossomed into such an amazing horse who has totally given me a reason to live and carry on with the problems I’ve acquired as a result of treatment. She challenges me, helps me be brave and has the most wonderful neck to snuggle into on bad days. My mobility on the ground is limited, she is my legs and even my wings. Riding her makes my soul sing.
Billy-Jo & Woody
Breed: Thoroughbred
Age: 10 yrs
Discipline/activity: Equine therapy
Woody has been amazing. A few months ago I found another [horse] passed away due to old age which hit me so badly and affected [me] mentally too. Then a beautiful tb called Woody came along into my life since then he has helped so much dealing with [the] other horse’s death he is the reason I wake up in the mornings and he is helping me so much. Woody really understands my emotional needs and special needs and autism. I owe so much to Woody. I am really grateful for his kindness and love.
Hayley & Jasper
Breed: Cob
Age: 8 yrs
Discipline/activity: Unaffiliated dressage and hacking
I suffer with anxiety and depression. Jasper gives me a reason to get up every day and gives me a daily routine. He is such a dog character and always knows how to put a smile on my face. He's like a giant oversized Labrador. Every moment spent with Jasper is always very special. He brings sunshine to my day and I'd be lost without him.
Beth & Latoya
Breed: Oldenburg Warmblood
Age: 10 yrs
Discipline/activity: A bit of everything, loves her cross country and showjumping
I’ve owned Toya for just over a year now, she has brought me from an inexperienced rider jumping 70 to jumping courses of 1m competitively. She is perfect in every way and so easy. On her first time on the beach we even galloped bareback which was a lifelong dream come true. I couldn’t imagine a better horse for my first horse, she’s a dream come true.
